Carroll Gardens is a neighborhood of the borough of Brooklyn, taking up about 40 blocks between Degraw and Warren Streets, Hoyt and Smith Streets, Night Street, and the BQE. Carroll Gardens was settled in the 19th century by Irish immigrants, followed in the middle of the century by Norwegian immigrants. The neighborhood’s name came from Charles Carroll, an Irish immigrant who was the only Roman Catholic signer of the Declaration of Independence.
