Details of Experience:

Ms. Shepherd was admitted to The Phoenix Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on July 8th, 2022, from Interfaith Medical Center, where she underwent surgery for right hip replacement. During her first 24 hrs at The Phoenix, Ms. Shepherd was very anxious about her journey in a sub-acute rehab center. During her first week at The Phoenix, Ms. Shepherd faced some challenges being the comfort of her own space apart from her, but with daily check-ins from the Concierge Team, she began to ease into her new surroundings. At the time of admission, she realized she was feeling overwhelmed by the new environment. The Concierge Team decided to refer her to our amazing Urban Zen program, which is a complementary healing program that treats our patients in a holistic approach, resulting in an improvement in mood and comfort.

Her goals were to be able to have pain-free ambulation and to successfully ambulate on level surfaces in household distances of 200 ft with minimal to no assistance. At first, Ms. Shepherd was nervous because of a new setting, but the Concierge Team was able to reassure her, along with the recreation department.

During the last week at the community, she improved in therapy and was able to be independent in mobile functions with limited to no assistance without pain. Ms. Shepherd spoke with the Concierge Team and shared that she had never been in a rehabilitation community before. When she first arrived, she was ready to go home and receive at-home therapy, but she was so happy that she did not decide to do that because the staff was very comforting and reassuring. Also, she would recommend The Phoenix to anyone who needs assistance in their rehab journey post-op surgery.

After discharge, The Concierge Team reached out to Ms. Shepherd, and she shared all was well, that she was adjusting well back into the community, and she thanked the team for our hospitality.

The Phoenix Rehabilitation sends the best of wishes to Ms. Shepherd and her future endeavors!
